VD10 No Signal Troubleshooting & Connection Guide

If your VD10 shows “No Signal or No Signal Detected”, it means the recorder is not receiving a valid video signal from the source device. This is usually caused by an incorrect output port, wrong cable type, incompatible adapter, or the source device not outputting AV/S-Video video.

Important: The VD10 records incoming AV (CVBS) or S-Video signals. It does not play VHS tapes, DVDs, or camcorder tapes by itself. A separate playback device is required.

Check the Input Mode on the VD10

When using an AV/composite video connection, “CVBS” should appear in the top-right corner of the VD10 screen. When using S-Video, “S-Video” should appear instead.

Press the Input Selection Button to switch between input modes.

For VCR / VHS Player with AV Output

Use the rear AV/RCA OUT ports

Many VCRs have both input and output ports. The VD10 must be connected to the VCR’s AV/RCA OUT ports.

  • Use: Rear AV/RCA OUT ports on the VCR.
  • Do not use: Front AV/RCA input ports.
  • Do not use: AV/RCA IN ports on the back of the VCR.

Tip: If possible, connect the VCR directly to a TV using the same AV cable. If the TV also shows no picture, the issue is likely related to the VCR, tape, or cable.

For VCR with SCART output

If your VCR uses SCART output, you need a SCART-to-AV output adapter. Some SCART adapters are input-only and will not work.

  • For VCR with SCART adapter outputoutput.
  • Use the SCART port labeled AV1, TV, or Output.
  • Do not use AV2 or Decoder ports.

For Camcorder with AV Cable or 3.5mm to AV Connecting Cable

Camcorders may output video through AV (CVBS), S-Video, or a model-specific AV multi-output port. The correct cable depends on the camcorder model.

Supported connection methods

  • CVBS (AV) + Red/White audio
  • S-Video + Red/White audio
  • S-Video only: video only, no audio

Camcorder cable note: Standard 3.5mm-to-3 RCA AV cables may not work with all camcorders because different brands use different AV pinouts. Use the original camcorder AV cable or a model-compatible replacement.

For Camcorders wtih Multi AV Output

Some MiniDV or Handycam models use an AV Multi Output port instead of standard RCA ports. In this case, use the original AV cable supplied with the camcorder.

If the original cable is missing, search for a cable that matches your exact camcorder model, such as: “AV cable S-Video Handycam DCR”.
